Science: Massive 2D Rubens Tube Of Over 2500 Holes Driven By Sound and Music

From the site:

Rubens’ Tube is an awesome demo and here we take it to the next level with a two-dimensional ‘Pyro Board’. This shows unique standing wave patters of sound in the box.

The pressure variations due to the sound waves affect the flow rate of flammable gas from the holes in the Pyro Board and therefore affect the height and colour of flames. This is interesting for visualizing standing wave patterns and simply awesome to watch when put to music. Thank you to Sune Nielsen and everyone at Aarhus for sharing this demonstration with me! And thanks for having me at your conference.

NEW VIDEO!! The coolest thing you’ll see all day: a 2-dimentional Rubens’
Tube. Sound + Fire = Awesome

  2. Veritasium

If you’re just here for music and fire, skip to 3:38. It’s mesmerizing.

We need more innovations like these now a days instead of health care
    problems and taxes.

I wonder what a Rubens’ cube would look like.

La *pyroboard* danese è un tubo di Rubens in formato piano. Ora la cosa
figa è vedere cosa succede col suono in questa version. Andrebbe messa in
    ogni locale e discoteca!

    Un must, veramente.

    Beautiful science x music experiment
This tech should be adopted, bought, copyrighted, implemented by Rammstein
    and Rammstein only 😛

I’ve actually seen that board IRL, at Sorø Akademi (Soroe Academy),
Fysikshowet (Meaning: The Physics Show) were there for a science camp
called Science|Talenter (Litterally meaning: Sciece Talents) – I remmember
them playing Gangnam Style on it, and a couplr of other popular pop songs
    at the time.

Saw a 1D version of this at the KC MakerFaire, which was longer so probably
able to display lower frequencies. This 2D version is a very nice way to
display cymatics. Fire and audio, fantastic!
